May 8th - 12th
Story: New Hope and each student will be assigned a book to do final book report in class.
Phonics: We will review the silent consonants. Students will continue to sound out words by syllables.
Grammar: We are completing packet to practice proper nouns, subjects, predicates, verb tenses and similes.
Reading: The remaining stories from Unit 6.
Students had so much fun reading the play "The Tortoise and the Hare". We ran out of time to write our play and will work it into this weeks schedule. We are completing and acting out our plays in class this week.
Reading strategies: Visualize and clarify, and making connections
Reading skills: cause and effect
Students have learned how to write a good paragraph that has an introduction sentence, two or three supporting details, and a conclusion sentence. We will continue to work on the writing process. First, we will brainstorm ideas using a graphic organizer. Second, we will write a rough draft for the editing. Last, students write their final paper. The student's favorite step in the writing is presenting their papers to the class. This week we are going to finish writing our play.
We are going to review what makes a good sentence and practice, practice, and more practice! Students have learned to write compound sentences using "and" to connect two sentences. They have learned contractions, compound words, commas, quotation, difference sentence endings, and commas. Please help your child to use grammar lessons learned in class in their homework.
Writing: We are going to finish writing our own play and acting them out in class.
