Lessons Unit 2, Lesson 4 Birdhouse for Rent

We will continue to practice reading stratagies compare,contrast and visualization. This weeks strategies are ask questions, making predictions and clarifying text read.
Phonics: . We always use our phonic rules in our writing and reading for the week.The sound spelling cards help students remember the sounds and spelling in their daily reading and writing. Students are learning letter sounds, how to blend letter sounds, and how to sound out words by syllables.
We will continue to review /e/ spelled _ie, -y,-ey, and e/ spelled ee,ea,e, and e_e and all other sounds learned in class to apply to our writing and reading for the week.
Grammar: This week we will continue to practice nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives along with subject and predicates by using anchor charts to apply them to our reading and writing.
Vocabulary: rest, deserted vacant, tenants, examine
Students will be provided a coloring book on different ways to use the peace sign to help them learn the differences of the words peace and piece.
Writing: We will continue to practice how to write better sentences by answering who, what, where, why, and when in their sentences. This week we will focus on complete and incomplete sentences. We are working on including punctuation and sentence endings. Our writing process includes organizing our thoughts on a graphic organizer, writing a rough draft, editing, and writing our final draft. When complete, the students illustrate and read their stories. This is my favorite part of the writing process!
This week we are going to write a letter to a pen pal in Australia.
Homework: Students should read at least 15 minutes everyday. This is 15 minutes well spent and there are many creative ways to get reading time. Come see me for some ideas. I am going to be sending home a "Read Every Day" RED log where parents have to sign off on students reading. Thank you all for starting this process smoothly.

Tuesday: Write 5 good sentences using spelling words for the weeks
Wednesday : pg.137
Thursday:Write spelling words in ABC order & study for test
Friday: NO HOMEWORK
I have attached the usual spelling word list in the binders to include the vocabulary words and high frequency words. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. This week the spelling words are in an email.
